About The Chair

The Justice M.L. Pendse Chair in Environmental Law advocates for laws that will sustain ecosystems and ensure a healthy environment. The Chair's key initiatives include public legal education, litigation, research, and policy development.

It has had a significant impact on the environment and the broader community, helping to protect endangered species and habitats, contributing to the development of stronger environmental laws and regulations, and increasing public awareness of environmental issues.

The Chair is committed to environmental protection, social justice, and public legal education and also plans to continue its work to protect the environment and the rights related to a healthy environment, and to address new environmental challenges, such as climate change.

Vision

The Chair initiates, plans, implements, and follows up research activities exclusively in the area of environmental law and policy. The chair collaborates with national and international stakeholders, including law firms, corporate houses, government departments, and funding agencies. The chair also conducts training and extension activities such as workshops, seminars, and round-table conferences.
